Nicola, with her blonde brown hair, gorgeous blue eyes and cheeky smile, is a gorgeous baby. Just looking at her, it’s so hard to believe that, with such a sweet little face on the outside, that there is so much going on inside
but there is.
Nicola suffers from a very rare genetic condition called Costello Syndrome. She is the 14th person to ever be diagnosed in Australia, and there are only an estimated 150 people in the world with the diagnosis.
Nicola's family is currently raising funds to take Nicola to a conference in the UK in September 2010. This conference is being held at the Thistle London Heathrow Hotel from the 8th - 11th September 2010.
This conference gives them a chance to not only have access to some of the doctors who actually know and understand this rare and mysterious condition, but also a chance to break out of the isolation of living with a rare medical condition and spend time with other families who actually understand what they are dealing with on a daily basis.
This is what Nicola's mum Jo had to say about attending the last conference....."It was after fundraising last year and taking her to the US conference that we diagnosed her neurological complications and then came back and fought the medical system for months to get the testing done. It turns out we were right. I really believe that if we hadn’t gone to the US conference, we wouldn’t have diagnosed her neurological problems, and I truly hate to think how much worse it would have been if the intervention hadn’t been when it was. Even then, there’s no telling at the moment if any irreparable damage has been done. I firmly believe that if it wasn’t for our going to the US and learning what we did then, we probably would have lost her by now. These conferences are our life line
both medically and socially".

GETTING ORGANISED....Homework Hub! |
|
Homework is a never ending pile of books, textbooks and readers. It’s a big part of your daily lives and as most homework is home for a week, do you really want it on the kitchen table?
Wherever your kids do their homework, which is generally close to the kitchen, find a place to create a 'Homework Hub'.
Ideally you want to allocate 1 drawer or filing tray to each child. Label the drawer with their name and then this is where their homework goes at the end of each day.
How you set it up all depends on the space you have and how many kids you have. The best option is to dedicate a small set of drawers to the purpose, perhaps at the end of your kitchen bench. If you don’t have the space, stackable filing trays work well and may even fit on a shelf in a cupboard, so they’re out of sight. There are also many trays on wheels that work well, BUT make sure they fit A4 sized books and are reasonably deep. As they get older, they get more books. If they’re not at school yet, use the drawer for their colouring books and pencils etc.
If they have textbooks, calculators, rulers, protractors etc. that they use for homework, throw them in here as well. If there’s a spare drawer, you can use it for sticky tape, glue, scissors etc.
Depending on how many kids you have, homework can be a part of your lives for up to 20 years – so organising it is time well spent!

FASHION & STYLE...Colour Analysis |
|
WHAT ~ WHY ~ WHEN ~ WHERE
What - Colour analysis is the process undertaken by Image Consultants to determine the ‘optimum’ tones and colour an individual can wear. When you wear the correct colours you are in sync with your internal colouring. The draping of different valued coloured scarves is one technique employed to determine a ‘colour’ reading for an individual.
A Flow colour analysis takes into consideration a person’s skin tone, hair colour and eyes. From which 1 of 12 determinations can be decided. As we are not from just one ‘season’. The ‘Flow’ system allows a very succinct outcome.
Why - It can seem like hocus pocus to many people. But I have been dressing and styling performers on television for over 15 years and have seen the positive effects on many media presenters. It is always delightful to hear a Producer say to me, “Wow, they look great, thank you.” So I have no problem explaining to clients that it is money well spent. When you wear the right colours you look healthier and your ‘colour intensifier’ can simply make you glow.
But it is not just about looking great, it is about being noticed when it matters. It is about feeling good when you are tired and run off your feet. It is about fine tuning your wardrobe of clothes, so that eventually everything can mix and match. Just imagine how much time a working mum could save getting ready in the morning. And actually being able to walk out of the door with an outfit on, that says ‘yes, I am in control’. Imagine delivering an important seminar to a room packed full of people, attending an important job interview, or teaching for a group of young children.
No matter what the situation, by knowing how to choose the right colours and how to get the best contrast of these colours for maximum effect, you can hold the attention of others around you successfully......read more
