Colour Analysis WHAT ~ WHY ~ WHEN ~ WHERE
What - Colour analysis is the process undertaken by Image Consultants to determine the ‘optimum’ tones and colour an individual can wear. When you wear the correct colours you are in sync with your internal colouring. The draping of different valued coloured scarves is one technique employed to determine a ‘colour’ reading for an individual.
A Flow colour analysis takes into consideration a person’s skin tone, hair colour and eyes. From which 1 of 12 determinations can be decided. As we are not from just one ‘season’. The ‘Flow’ system allows a very succinct outcome.
Why - It can seem like hocus pocus to many people. But I have been dressing and styling performers on television for over 15 years and have seen the positive effects on many media presenters. It is always delightful to hear a Producer say to me, “Wow, they look great, thank you.” So I have no problem explaining to clients that it is money well spent. When you wear the right colours you look healthier and your ‘colour intensifier’ can simply make you glow.
But it is not just about looking great, it is about being noticed when it matters. It is about feeling good when you are tired and run off your feet. It is about fine tuning your wardrobe of clothes, so that eventually everything can mix and match. Just imagine how much time a working mum could save getting ready in the morning. And actually being able to walk out of the door with an outfit on, that says ‘yes, I am in control’. Imagine delivering an important seminar to a room packed full of people, attending an important job interview, or teaching for a group of young children.
No matter what the situation, by knowing how to choose the right colours and how to get the best contrast of these colours for maximum effect, you can hold the attention of others around you successfully.
When - Although I have been working in ‘Costume/Wardrobe Departments since 1989 I did not think about ‘colour ‘until much later in my career. We worked instinctively with performers. In retrospect I wish I had the knowledge I have today back at the start of my career. It is an easy thing to put off. Colour is such an arbitrary thing. The majority of people who book in for their ‘colours’ are ladies who feel disillusioned with the fads of fashions. Not knowing how to get the best out of the shop windows or how to keep up with the trends. A flow colour analysis can give you back the time, money, energy and stress that we all can experience in the stores. As you bring back some control in the whole clothes buying process.
Recently a client of mine told me how she had put off having her colours determined. As she expected to outlay a lot of extra time and money to follow through and ‘fix’ her existing wardrobe. I imagine that this would be a very common fear. But once you discard the obvious unwanted colours in your closet it does not take long to see a pattern forming. The beginning of a fully co-coordinated wardrobe emerges and the feeling is liberating.
Did you know that the majority of us where 20% of our existing wardrobe 80% of the time.
Where - A colour analysis can be booked with any Image Consultant who deals with colours.
Finding a local consultant is easy on Google. If money is an issue try contacting an Image Consulting Company that also offers training. They often need volunteers when they have their training days. Colour analysis has also entered the computer age. There are many sites that will offer tips and hints for those who want to self evaluate. But if you want the accuracy, a colour report and a purse sized collection of your very own colours, seek sites that will do the colour analysis on-line for you. It is efficient and roughly half the price of visiting a consultant. All you need is the ability to upload some photos and answer a few questions. May by you to can save time, energy and money the next time you go shopping.
